About

Filmmaker · Director of Photography · Visual Artist

April Garnica is a filmmaker and visual artist originally from Tijuana, Mexico. Currently studying film at the University of California, Santa Cruz, she brings a unique cross-border perspective to her work — one shaped by growing up between two cultures, two languages, and two nations.

April completed her Associate's degree for transfer in Film, Television, and Media Arts (FTMA) at Southwestern College before transferring to UC Santa Cruz. Her interests span narrative filmmaking, documentary, photography, stop motion animation, and visual art.

As a Director of Photography, April is drawn to stories that explore identity, belonging, and the spaces between. Her latest film, Fronterizos, examines the complexities of border life through a deeply personal lens.
